PolyShaper technology was ideated by Prattico Flavio (mechanical engineer) and Carmine Gianfagna (electrical engineer) to compensate the deficiency of polystyrene technological processes. Semi-finished, as well as the finished products polystyrene, are manufactured through the molding by sintering. Since the cost of the mold is a high investment, these products are economically feasible only on big volumes. To respond to a need to customize unique pieces and small series, at present there are no technologies that meet these requirements. PolyShaper technology, uses a taut hot shaped wire,that is able, through the use of numerical control machines, to realize on polystyrene any shape, no matter its grade of complexity, maintaining unchanged the tactile properties of the material. In summary, PolyShaper represents for polystyrene what 3D printing represents for plastics.
